Who We Are A Little About Us Centers for independent living are private, nonprofit corporations that provide services to maximize the independence of individuals with disabilities and the accessibility of the communities they live in. Centers are funded in part by the Department of Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration, and the Independent Living Branch to provide, among other things, several core services including advocacy, independent living skills training, information and referral, peer counseling. Established in 1985, @SLIC has served as a leader in service and advocacy in southwest Louisiana. With offices in Lake Charles, Leesville, and Lafayette, we currently serve a 21 parish area. It is our passion to assist the elderly and persons with disabilities to live independently in their own homes and communities. @SLIC provides seven core services: State-funded Waiver Services, Supported Employment, Supervised Independent Living, ASL Interpretation for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Assisstive Technology, Information and Referral, And Community Outreach and Involvement.
