How We Can Help

At SLIC, independent living starts with your goals, your choices, and what matters to you.

Whether you want to live more independently, remain in your own home, build new skills, find resources, obtain equipment, understand your options, or overcome a barrier in your community, SLIC may be able to help.

We offer programs designed for specific needs, as well as Independent Living services that can help you work toward your individual goals.

Don't see a program that matches your need? Contact us anyway.
You don't need to fit into a specific program to ask SLIC for help. Tell us what you are trying to accomplish, and we'll help you explore the options and resources available.

Start with your goal. We'll help you explore the path forward.

Core Independent Living Services

As a Center for Independent Living, SLIC provides five Core Independent Living Services. These services are not separate programs. They are ways we support people with disabilities in working toward their individual goals and can be provided individually or as part of a SLIC program.

Advocacy

We support people with disabilities in understanding their rights, speaking up for themselves, addressing barriers, and pursuing greater access and independence. @SLIC also works with communities and systems to improve accessibility and opportunities for people with disabilities.

Information and Referral

We help people find information, resources, services, and supports related to disability and independent living. If @SLIC does not provide what you need directly, we can help identify other community resources and options.

Peer Support

Connect with people who understand disability through lived experience. Peer support provides opportunities to share experiences, learn from one another, build confidence, solve problems, and work toward greater independence.

Independent Living Skills Training

We help people develop and strengthen skills that support greater independence. Training is based on the individual's goals and may include areas such as managing a household, transportation, budgeting, communication, self-advocacy, technology, accessing community resources, and other everyday living skills.

Transition

We support people with disabilities through important life transitions, including moving from institutions or other settings into community-based living and helping youth with disabilities prepare for life after high school. Support is based on the individual's goals and may include planning, skills development, advocacy, resources, and connections to community supports.
